| Check Out Your Kidneys During National Kidney Month 26 million Americans—1 in 9 adults—have chronic kidney disease, and most don’t know it. In honor of National Kidney Month in March and World Kidney Day, the National Kidney Foundation serving Alaska urges everyone to learn the risk factors and get their kidneys checked out. Early detection and treatment, including lifestyle changes, may SLOW or PREVENT the progression to kidney failure. Be good to your kidneys so they will last you the rest of your life. To make early detection of chronic kidney disease (CKD) as easy as possible, the foundation is offering a free screening on Saturday, March 13th at Changepoint Church, 6689 Changepoint Drive in Anchorage from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm through the Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP). KEEP is offered to those at risk – an individual with diabetes or high blood pressure or who has a member of their immediate family member (a parent, brother or sister) that has diabetes, high blood pressure or kidney disease – to prevent kidney disease from becoming kidney failure. If you have not attended a KEEP screening in the last year and are at risk for kidney disease, the National Kidney Foundation serving Alaska strongly encourages you to schedule an appointment for this free screening by calling 223-1562, 877-889-6318 or emailing kristie.lemmon@kidney.org. There is limited availability for walk ins, so book your appointment today. Participants must be 18 years or older. | |
